Remembering Stewart Trese
Remembering Stewart Trese
Stewart Trese was a Senior, Marketing major at Texas Christian University. Stewart was unique, a gentle soul, and very soft spoken. Many did not know Stewart but those who did, knew that Stewart was a good person and would never put anyone in harms way. I had the pleasure of meeting Stewart Trese when we both lived at the Grandmarc apartments on West Bowie Street.
At first we thought that Stewart committed suicide, that the pressures and hardships that came with life were too much for him to bare. We thought that he had had enough, that he had given up. In the past, Stewart had been picked on and manipulated by a lot of people. His roommates would constantly make fun of him and eventually left him alone in an apartment that was meant for four. We were mistaken.
David Hidalgo murdered Stewart on the morning of February 4th, 2014. David and Stewart had been "friends" for awhile and would hang out on occasion. On that Tuesday morning Stewart asked David to come up to his fifth floor apartment. Maybe Stewart had been given mixed signals, maybe he had the wrong idea when it came to David and his relationship. Stewart made sexual passes at David, and instead of David handling himself in a professional manner, he took part in a heinous hate crime. He stabbed Stewart multiple times and slit his throat.
When a police man, the manager of the Grandmarc apartments, Stewart's father found Stewart, there was blood all over the walls and the floor. Stewart was dead and his face was completely covered in blood. Everyone was shocked that something like this would happen, all because of Stewart's sexuality.
We will always remember Stewart and will never forget the impact that he had on our lives. His legacy will live on through the people that knew and loved him.
Rest in Peace Stewart Trese, gone but never forgotten.
